“Materials and processes Beyond the Nanoscale” (Beyond-Nano) is a research infrastructure of the national Research Council of Italy located at the Catania microelectronics hub. The mission of Beyond-Nano is focused on the development of new technologies in the field of microelectronics, with emphasis to power and high-frequency electronics and advanced photovoltaics. The infrastructure is equipped with a class 10 clean room and state-of-the-art equipment for growth of wide-band-gap semiconductors and two dimensional materials, for advanced processing, and for analytical characterization of materials and devices. The research activity are designed to create a tight link between materials science and device technology in order to reduce the transfer time from research to market applications. Beyond-Nano is organized into three large integrated facilities:
Lab_MAT
is devoted to the investigation of fundamental properties of novel semiconductors and two-dimensional materials
Lab_Power&RF
is dedicated to the development of innovative processes and nanotechnologies applied to power and radio frequency (RF) electronics
Lab_PV
is focused on the developments of advanced photovoltaic technologies
Beyond–Nano makes possibile to explore all the technological solutions linked to the use of new semiconductors, starting from the materials synthesis, moving toward the realization of prototype devices, passing through the development of micro– nanomachining processes in a clean-room whose standards are perfectly compatible to those of the Semiconductor Industry.
